Tick Control Using Topical Treatments
A topical flea and tick treatment is also known as a "spot-on" product. It's applied to the skin between the
shoulders of the pet. Topical tick treatments are used monthly and are generally effective for preventing ticks and
fleas for at least 30 days.
Examples include bioSpot SPOT ON for Dogs, or K9 Advantix for Dogs, These products contain an IGR or insect
growth regulator, which is an ingredient that helps to prevent flea eggs and larvae from developing.
When buying a topical tick treatment, consider whether you need one that is water-resistant. This type of
treatment is ideal for dogs that swim or are bathed frequently.
